We’ve all heard this saying: “selling your soul to the devil”. We know that it is literally possible, from Matthew 4:8-10:

“Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”

Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’

Temporarily, God allows Satan to have some control over this world. From these verses we know that Satan has the power to give people every power, possession and pleasure that the world can offer. If, you will only worship Satan and make him your god.

Many people believe that some rich and famous people have sold their souls to the devil in this manner. There are many songs that allude to this transaction as well. It is not unreasonable to think that there have been some people who have accepted Satan’s offer. But, what I’m more concerned with is that while not necessarily selling their souls completely to the devil, how many people have to a degree given their souls to him by worshipping the things of this world? In other words, if the main goals of your life are worldly, are you not serving the devil? If all you think about is money, “success”, comfort, a better house, a better car, etc. aren’t you essentially serving Satan?
