Introduction

An increasing amount of people are searching the term “Christians Clothes“. Is it a general search into the history of Christian clothes, what Christians should be wearing, or is it people looking to buy Christian clothing? In this article we will attempt to cover each of those topics.

In the early Christian church, believers obviously wore clothing appropriate for the time. They worse tunics made from wool, linen, and sometimes animal skins. Although they fit right in that day, early Christians and Jesus himself would stand out today. It would be strange for you to dress the way they did. But what principles did their clothing have in common with the way Christians should dress today? Modesty, good taste, and appropriateness.

Should Modesty be the Foundation of  a Christian’s Clothes?

One of the most important aspects of a “Christians clothes” has to be modesty. Modesty means dressing relatively unassuming and not dressing in revealing clothing. A Christian’s spirit and personality should shine through, not their appearance and dress. However, in today’s New Covenant, we do not want to be legalistic. You shouldn’t feel guilty about wearing or not wearing certain things. Jesus gives us the freedom to choose everything that we do and wear, but hopefully we will desire to be holy and dress modestly. We also don’t want to dress in a manner that can cause a brother or sister to stumble. If our hope and faith is truly rooted in Christ, we shouldn’t be worried about maximizing our physical appearance or attracting someone of the opposite sex by revealing too much. We ought to value a person for what cannot be seen, and hope to be valued in that way as well.

Which Clothes Qualify as Christian?

There exist a number of Christian clothing brands that you can shop from online. All of them likely sell clothes consistent with appropriate “Biblical” attire. Hopefully a Christian clothing brand isn’t selling “seductive” attire. So how do you distinguish one brand from the other and find the Christian clothing that suites you? Well there’s really no way around browsing through the various options. As of today, PureBold offers premium, affordable, simple clothing. What Does the Bible Say About “Christians Clothes”?

The Bible provides instruction to us on virtually all aspects of our life. It’s not always meant to be followed in a legalistic way, but it is meant to teach us and guide us in our decisions. In other words, God doesn’t tell us exactly what clothes to wear but He tells us what principles to consider when we choose our clothes.

Here are two Bible verses on the topic:

I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God. (NIV, 1 Timothy 2:9-10)

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. (NIV, 1 Peter 3:2-5)

As you can tell from these instructions, the emphasis should be on God and our Spirit and not our physical appearance. The authors make clear that our focus should be on God and what is invisible, and that we shouldn’t be overly concerned with our physical appearance. When people look at us, it should some deeper quality that they see, not just what we are wearing.

Conclusion

Besides a few fundamental guidelines such as remaining modest, the topic of a Christian’s clothes is somewhat subjective. As long as you aren’t wearing excessively revealing clothes, you are free to wear whatever you want. I wouldn’t say there’s anything wrong with wearing clothing brands that are not Christian, either.

One thing to consider is God’s desire for you to be a good steward of what he’s given you. So, when choosing where to spend your money on clothes, you may feel compelled to support a Christian clothing company that has Christian values. It’s always a positive when a portion of the proceeds go to furthering God’s kingdom. For example, at PureBold we give 10% of all profits to various Christian churches and missionaries. We are very series and particular about who we give to and make sure they are firmly committed to the Gospel.

Ultimately, after considering the Bible verses above, it will up to you what clothes you choose to purchase based on your personal style and taste.
